Autumn’s End

It is the end of Autumn and the garden is looking quite sad without its colourful decorative leaves. The quinces yellow leaves are still hanging on and the oak trees rich brown ones rattle when a breeze comes past.

There have been thick fogs every morning and some times I cannot even see the lake as I go past. Fog makes everything mysterious. The landscape looks flat like stage scenery as it disappears with distance. It’s been too cold to spend mornings in the garden and our fire has been very inviting.

We have fenced an area for a strawberry patch to keep the rabbits and the dogs out. The young golden retriever, Roo, has decided that she is allowed to jump in though which is a problem. I suppose we shouldn’t have given her that name. Her mum Winnie is far more sensible.

I also bought two cherry trees - Black Boy and Bing- and planted them. One I put in the back area we call the dogs garden (unfortunately they enjoy digging holes in their garden somtimes ) and one near the rose garden just over the fence. I hope they are close enough to cross pollinate.

A few roses still have the odd bloom on them and I was delighted to see one of the teenage cuttings produce a lovely rose the same as my absolute favourite pink one (I do not know its name). The mother is a large upright rose with delicate globe shaped repeating blooms, but it is it’s perfume that makes it so special.

We need some rain it is very dry and although it is cold we are watering still. I hope we get some before winter really arrives.

Spring in My Garden

Spring is such a lovely time, everything is fresh and green. Little birds chase each other in and out of the bushes or collect nesting...
