Autumn in my Garden

It's just barely started but the cold nights and chilly mornings let you know Autumn is on our doorstep. We had some welcome rain last week that washed the dust of all the leaves but when you go to plant something the ground beneath the surface is still very dry. We are watering regularly but it's not like a good rain.
This morning I planted the sweetpea seeds I saved around the fire pit garden and into a number of potted trees. I though they would make good supports for the vines in spring.
I also put in the ranunculus corms that I ordered in front of the roses in the dog yard. Now I have to put up a chicken wire fence to protect them and the roses from the rabbits (and the dogs from digging them up). Tomorrow I'll shift some of the ajuga that's growing so well throughout my garden to the dog yard garden edge. The rabbits won't eat it and it seems to act like a bit of a repellent.
The trees are still green but the ornamental grape vine has rich orange and burgundy leaves already. And some of the spring bulbs are getting well ahead of themselves and poking their noses through the mulch around the garden.
I'm sitting in a sunny spot writing this and I can hear all the little birds talking to each other in spite of the loud squawking sulfa crested cockies trying to drown them out.
